From a fugitive Saudi billionaire to an architectural secret, Henry and Clara Ford's Richmond Hill home is much more than meets the eye. In his recently-released short film, "Richmond Hill Plantation: Henry and Clara Ford's Southern Home," veteran local filmmaker and historian Michael Jordan dives deep into the history of this familiar yet little-known Bryan County mansion.
With the help of architectural historian Robin Williams from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Michael compared blueprints of the former Hermitage Plantation mansion, which Ford purchased and dismantled, with the architect's drawings of the mansion in Richmond Hill, to see if Ford truly rebuilt the original house brick by brick. Michael also interviews locals who visited the home during its derelict days in the 1970s, and one woman who attended several parties in the house when it was the domain of Saudi billionaire Ghaith Pharaon. The film includes a look inside this exclusive home today, when the mansion serves as a centerpiece of the Ford Plantation gated community.
